Man shot in Coquitlam, B.C., while son sat in back seat, RMCP say

COQUITLAM, B.C. – The RCMP say a man was injured in what they believe may have been a targeted shooting in Coquitlam, B.C., on Saturday.

The Mounties say the man’s nine-year-old son, who was in the back seat of the vehicle at the time of the shooting, was unharmed.

They say officers responded to a report of shots being fired just after 4:40 p.m. and found the man suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

The Mounties say in a statement there’s not enough information to establish or rule out a link between the shooting and gang conflict in the Lower Mainland, but they “do not believe this was a completely random act.”

A silver sedan was seen leaving the area after the shooting and police are asking anyone who may have been around the Westwood Plateau to provide any video footage or other information that could help their investigation.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 5, 2021.
