Former premier Jason Kenney nominated to ATCO board

Former Alberta premier Jason Kenney has been nominated to ATCO’s board, which is to be voted on during the company’s upcoming annual general meeting on May 10 at the Fairmont Palliser in Calgary.

Kenney is the only nominee of the eight who is not currently an ATCO director.

Nominees are identified by the board chairman, the board and with review by the Corporate Governance — Nomination, Compensation and Succession Committee. The process used is to ensure overall diversity of experience, background, skills and geographic representation of board members.

The notice of annual meeting to shareholders points to Kenney’s long and varied experience in different levels of government, his four years as premier and his role in the creation of Alberta’s Recovery Plan, Natural Gas Vision and Strategy, Hydrogen Roadmap and the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation.

According to the notice, Kenney is not currently an ATCO shareholder and has not previously received compensation from the energy company.

Since stepping down as premier in October after a less than robust leadership review and vacating his seat in Calgary-Lougheed, Kenney has kept a fairly low profile. In January, he was hired on in a senior advisory role with Calgary law firm Bennett Jones LLP.
